Welcome to Year 2!
Hello and welcome to Year 2!
We have a fun and busy year ahead of us where we will continue to build upon everything we have learnt so far. In addition, we will have many opportunities that will help us to grow and become more confident. We will enjoy learning new topics and learning the Year 2 Curriculum in preparation for the KS1 Assessments in May.

P.E
Year 2 have their PE lessons on a Tuesday and a Friday. On PE days it is expected that children come to school in their PE kit. This is a plain white t-shirt, plain blue tracksuit bottoms or shorts and plain black/white trainers or plimsolls. Children should also ensure that they do not wear earrings on PE days for health and safety reasons.
Homework/Home Reading
Homework is set on Google Classroom every Thursday. Maths homework is generally set on the My Maths website. Practice of the 2x, 3x, 5x and 10x tables can be done on the Times Table Rock Stars website.
Each week children will be provided with a reading and library book to support their reading at home. It is recommended that children read for at least ten minutes/day.
All homework should be completed and returned by Tuesday. Homework set on Google Classroom should be handwritten and completed in the homework books provided.

What are Year 2 learning this week?
English
We have been reading the story ‘ Gregory Cool’ which links to our Topic lessons, in Trinidad and Tobago. We have been learning the features of diary writing and have written our very own! Additionally, we’ve been working hard learning all about contractions and suffixes!
Maths
Be have been getting better at learning our times tables and understanding multiplication. We have been building and drawing arrays to help us. We even made an ‘Array City’ based on the multiplications that we have been learning! We also enjoyed dressing up for Number Day!
Science
In science, we have started to learn about all the different habitats and how certain animals are able to adapt to them.
RE
We have been learning about sacramental people and children have created a beautiful display. We even had the privilege of a nurse visiting us in Year 2 and the children were able to ask questions!
Topic
We have started our new geography topic of ‘Trinidad and Tobago and comparing it to the UK’. We have created a booklet to file all of our work and look forward to our Trinidad and Tobago Wow Day carnival!
Computing
In Computing, Pat made a beautiful Easter design.
RHE
We practised self-care techniques for our ‘Wow Mindfulness Day’ linked to mental health week and our RE theme: ‘Care for Ourselves.’ We made beautiful lavender bags to help us to calm down.
World Book Day
We enjoyed dressing up as our favourite book characters!
