  • Reception Fairy Tale Ball

    Published 25/11/22

Today was an incredibly colourful affair over in our Reception block. Each classroom was full of princesses, knights, dragons and even a few gingerbread men. The children came to school dressed as their favourite characters from a story and attended the St Edmund's Fairy Tale Ball. Throughout the day, there were lots of laughter and smiles as the children talked about their character and even joined in some ballroom dancing. The children have been learning about traditional tales and their characters, settings and feelings over the past few weeks. So this was the perfect way to bring all of this to life.

Thank you to all the parents who made a great effort to help the children look so fantastic. Also, a big well done to the Reception team, who organised and also dressed up for the day!

More pictures can be found in our school gallery.

  • Year 2 Fire Station Visit

    Published 18/11/22

Yesterday morning, in the gloomy autumn rain, our Year two children set out to visit Edmonton fire station. Wearing their jackets and wellies, they walked 15 minutes to Church street to meet the firefighters. The children had a fantastic morning and were shown around the station, had a go in the fire trucks and even had a shot with the fire hose. The children returned to school incredibly pleased with their trip and spent the rest of the day sharing their experiences with anyone who would listen.

It was also wonderful to hear the firefighters praise the children for their excellent behaviours whilst visiting.

Very well done all of Year 2 for showing how excellent St Edmund's can be.

A big thank you also to the staff and parents who supported the pupils on the trip.

You can find more pictures of the day in our school gallery.

On Sunday, November 13th, representatives from St Edmund's joined the Remembrance Day Parade in Edmonton Green. We marched with the Royal British Legion, the Mayor of Enfield, our local MP, Air and Sea Cadets, Police, Scouts, Guides and other uniformed groups, to honour and remember all those men and women in the armed forces who have died in wars. We were also joined by children representing Oasis Academy and Millbrook Pre-School. We are proud to say, "We will remember them".

  • We will remember them...

    Published 11/11/22

This morning, Key Stage 2 was part of a special assembly remembering those who have died in armed conflicts worldwide. Mrs Pearson helped organise the assembly, which this year focused on the Falklands War as we recognise its 40th anniversary. The children read beautifully from the front as they told us about the conflict and its significance in British history. Mrs Pope also led the choir in a beautiful rendition of 'We will be heroes'.

Also, today at 11'o clock, the whole school were upstanding for two minutes of silence and listened to The Last Stand.

Well done St Edmund's for being so respectful on this day of remembrance!

  • Special Visit From Bishop John Sherrington

    Published 04/11/22

On Thursday 3rd November, St Edmund's Catholic Primary School had a very special visit from Bishop John Sherrington, who came to visit our school and bless our new head teacher, Mr Abrahams. Bishop Sherrington was greeted by some of our parents, parish priest, ex-headteachers, governors and staff to discuss the excellent Catholic education children receive in our school.

After this, the school joined a beautiful liturgy led by children in Year 6. The children behaved excellently and were in awe of the Bishop as he explained his job and how lucky they were to be in our school. He also explained how impressed he was to hear how we all use prayer in school and at home to connect with our faith and encouraged us all never to stop praying.

It was a wonderful experience for us all, and thank you to those who helped put this special visit together!

More pictures can be found in our school gallery.

  • Black History Month Showcase

    Published 02/11/22

Earlier this week, we brought our Black History Month celebrations to a close with a wonderful showcase of the work children have done over the past month. This year, St Edmund's focused on black artists around the world. Children spent time investigating their work and the meaning behind the art and completed some artwork of their own in that artist's style.

Pupils from each year group were selected to promote their stand and answer questions from their many visitors. Here are just a few quotes from our visitors.

"I really like Wangechi Mutu's work; it was so creative"

    Year 3 pupil

"I loved Year 3's work. They were so creative and made brilliant sculptures from recycled materials."

    Year 4 pupil

Below are a few photographs from our showcase. You can find more in our school gallery.

During the month of October, we were also very lucky to have our kitchen team serve us up a special meal inspired by African cultures. Children were able to tuck into Jollof rice and chicken, patties and some wonderful Mississippi chocolate mud pie. This was very popular, and the children can't wait to see it back on the menu.

Thank you to Renata and the kitchen staff for producing such a lovely meal.
