A warm welcome back from all the staff at St Edmunds! We hope you are relaxed, recharged and ready for the new school year ahead.

A special welcome must go to all our new staff and children who have joined across the school. We are very pleased you have joined our school community, and we look forward to working with you all over the next few years!

We are also excited to share that Zolie in Year 6 has recently been accepted to train and play for Arsenal Woman FC. She received her first Arsenal kit over the Summer holidays and was invited to play in her first tournament held in Swindon. Zolie has been working and training very hard over the last couple of years, and all from the St Edmund's community would like to congratulate her on her efforts. We are incredibly proud of you and are very much looking forward to hearing and watching your rise to the top! 

Finally, thank you parents, for your patience and understanding with the new gate routines. As restrictions slowly start to ease, and we re-establish school routines, let's stay positive, keep smiling and make this the best school year yet!

Over the past few months the children across St Edmund's have worked tirelessly with Mrs Jenkins and Mrs Kenny to plant flowers, trees and vegetables around our school, as part of the boroughs edible garden project / Enfield in Bloom. They have done a fantastic job making our school even more beautiful and have learnt loads about plants and how to grow food in the process.

We were delighted to have received a donation of books from Marcus Rashford and his collaboration with Magic Breakfast. This book is the first book in the Marcus Rashford Book Club. It is called ‘A Dinosaur Ate My Sister’ written by Pooja Puri with illustrations by Allen Fatimaharan.

Marcus Rashford says:

This week across the school has been My Money Week. This is a national activity week for primary schools that provides a fantastic opportunity for young people to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence in money matters to thrive in society. It's the highest-profile and most recognised personal finance education initiative in England.

Across the school, each year group have been working on fantastic projects, which include buying from class shops to visiting new lemonade stands.

Year 5 have been working all week to plan, budget and organise a tea party for the year group and a lucky few VIPs. On Friday morning, the children spent time making sandwiches, fruit kebabs, sharing treats and decorating the hall in preparation for the party. From the pictures below, you can see a great time was had by all lucky enough to be invited. 

Children from across the school have worked hard all week, and we are sure there will be some budding entrepreneurs in the future!

Children in Year 4 were this week delighted to be taking part in the Royal Mail's Heroes Stamp Design Competition, honouring the heroes of the coronavirus pandemic. 

During Art lessons, children worked on designing and colouring a stamp for the national competition. The best eight from across the UK will become a unique design set to be sold in shops and post offices.

Today we were proud to be joining cities from across the world in celebrating World Day of Cultural Diversity. 

All week children have been learning about a chosen country or continent. This finished today with a showcase of work and activities in the playground and online. Our whole school community also got into the spirit by wearing traditional dress or colours.  Please have a look in 'Our School Gallery' to see all the pictures from today and look on your child's Google Classroom account for the Padlet activity, which will show the uploaded work from those working at home this week.
