  • Stations of the Cross service

    Published 28/03/24

Year 6's Stations of the Cross service, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings to the Year 6 parents and KS1 and KS2 respectively.

Despite both Year 6 teachers being new to the school and having not seen this service take place here, I can honestly say that, in all my years being associated with St Edmund's, it was the best Stations of the Cross I have seen. This was led and organised by Ms Freitas, who brilliantly added some poignant, beautiful touches to further enhance the feeling of sorrow and prayerfulness to the service. The choir, led by Mrs Pope, were outstanding and pitch-perfect in their accompaniment to the retelling of the story and the readers and actors were loud, clear and appropriately sombre. And, because Year 6 set the right tone, the atmosphere from the rest of the school, in both services, was impeccably prayerful and respectful and, thus, understanding of the sadness of the story and Jesus' love for us.

  • Code Club Trip to Tower Bridge

    Published 18/03/24

Members of Code Club went on a trip to Tower Bridge. We first went to the Engine Rooms and our guide, Isabel, told us the history of Tower Bridge (we found out it will be 130 years old in June!) and how it works. Then we walked across the high-level glass-bottomed walkways. Some of us didn't like that at all! We even saw a helicopter coming in to land to take part in the Ceremony of the Constable's Dues.

After lunch in a classroom in one of the 'towers', we put together models of one of the bascules to understand how they work and then we went on Scratch to write the code to raise the bascules. When we left, we were lucky enough to see some of the Royal Marines marching past the Tower of London at the end of the Ceremony.

It was a very exciting trip!

  • World Book Day 2024

    Published 11/03/24

There can be no doubt that the highlight of this week was World Book Day. Everyone was so impressed with all the effort you and your children went to dress them up as their favourite book characters or characters from stories written by female authors. The children (and the staff) really looked fantastic, and you can see photos and a video starring Mrs Pope as Baby Shark.
