PE

Year 4 has PE on Monday morning.

They must come to school with their PE kits on these days, which must be a plain white t-shirt, a plain navy-blue tracksuit and plain white or black trainers /plimsolls.

Children must not wear earrings and must have long hair tied back.  If your child is unable to independently take their earrings off or tie their hair back, please make sure this is organised before they come to school.

We are unable to use the water fountains at the moment, so please ensure your child brings in a labelled bottle of water every day.

Homework / Home Reading

Homework is set every Friday on Google Classroom and should be returned by Thursday the following week. Reading books are sent out on Thursday to be returned on Tuesday. Books should be signed every week.  Please remember to log on to ‘Times Tables Rock Stars’ regularly.

What are Year 4 learning?

Maths

This term in Year 4, we have been learning all about multiplication and division! With the Year 4 Times Tables Test approaching, we know how important it is to be confident and accurate with our times tables. We have been using a range of different methods, including concrete resources, to help deepen our understanding and support our learning. It has been great to see everyone growing in confidence and enjoying the challenge!

English

In English, we have been reading The Day the Crayons Quit, which the children have loved! Inspired by the story, we have been writing persuasive letters to convince our chairs to come back after going on strike. The children have worked hard to use strong reasons, persuasive language and clear structure in their writing, producing some fantastic and imaginative letters.

RE

In RE, we have been writing our Advent promises and sharing them as we prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ. We have spent time reflecting on what we are grateful for and discussing how we can prepare our hearts and minds during the season of Advent. The children have shown thoughtfulness and respect during these meaningful discussions.

History

In History, we have been learning about the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire. We even had the exciting opportunity to visit the British Museum, where we explored Roman artefacts and learned more about daily life in Roman times. This visit helped bring our learning to life and deepened the children’s understanding of this fascinating period in history.

ICT

Year 4 was coding in Purple Mash and learning how variables work in their coding lessons.

Other News

This term, Year 4 celebrated Black History Month by learning about the rich history and culture of Ethiopia. We explored its traditions, important landmarks and inspiring figures, and enjoyed discussing why Ethiopia is such a special and historic country. The children showed great curiosity and respect while learning about different cultures and histories.
